Productivity is an important factor in writing. In this post, I will share five ways to write more every day. Whether it is for a blog, for a school assignment, or just to practice, these tips can help you to write more often.
1. Write first thing in the morning
The first thing you do in the morning is usually the most important task of the day. So why not use that time to get some writing done? Writing in the morning leads you to take on the rest of the day with a more positive outlook. Also, when you work your brain in the morning, it is fresher and it can be more focused.
2. Stay disciplined
If you just show yourself that you can do it for one day, your resistance to writing will lower, and writing time will be much easier in general. You're not going to want to write all day every single day, but you don't need that much commitment. Simplify your life through routines: write in the mornings, edit at noon and read before bedtime!
💡 Quick hack for being disciplined: set a time. Motivation is hard and you want to avoid writing all day every day, so don't set unrealistic expectations for yourself. Have a routine with two or three times in a week that are your designated writing times-nothing more! Try it out on the weekends. 3. Write when you get a fresh idea
Sometimes a story just gets underway or something happens and you get a fresh idea. Write about it. Doesn't need to be an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Just get the story down. If you only have 15 minutes, and it's not bugging you to wait, submit your idea on a Twitter post or Facebook status update so you can finish it later.
4. Schedule Writing Breaks
Employees achieve their best productivity when they take small breaks at key points in their day. In a Cornell University study, researchers found that taking an occasional break from the task at hand can help people think more creatively and do high-quality work as they wrap up projects. A well-known productivity hacker, Tim Ferris, recommends taking at least 2 “mini-breaks” per hour during work hours to avoid feeling overwhelmed and overworked. Breaking up tasks into manageable parts can also prevent feelings of helplessness or panic from creeping in if the day starts not so great.
5. Brain Rest
Sleep is a critical part of brain function, where the brain sorts through memories and prepares for new learning. Getting enough sleep at night and taking occasional mini naps during the day will help people do their best work without any lost productivity from drowsiness or fatigue.
